The Japan Karatedo Federation conferred the 9th rank of honor officially recognized by the Japan Karate Federation to Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.
Mr. Suga has a deep knowledge and understanding of karate, and as the chairman of the Karatedo Promotion Council (established in June 2014: Mr. Suga was Chief Cabinet Secretary at the time of inauguration), he has contributed to the promotion and development of karate and the official participation in the Olympic Games. In recognition of this achievement, the Japan Karatedo Federation has decided to award the 9th rank of honor after the discussion of the board of directors on October 20th.
On Friday, November 20, at the Prime Minister’s Office, the award ceremony was held with the attendance of Chairman Takashi Sasakawa and Vice Chairman Shigeo Kurihara, Wataru Takeshita, Secretary-General of the Karatedo Promotion Federation, and Masahisa Sato, Executive Secretary of the Japan Karate Federation. ..
When Mr. Suga was handed the commemorative dogi and obi, he smiled and fastened the obi through his sleeves, and the award ceremony began in a peaceful atmosphere. Chairman Sasakawa read the letter of appreciation and handed it along with the dan letter.
Mr. Suga was a stepped person who belonged to the Goju-ryu Karatedo club during the Hosei era. “The experience of practicing karate has been a great source of food for my life after that,” he said, and he continues to work as the chairman of the Karatedo Promotion Parliamentary League. In the past, the Japan Karate Federation has awarded two people the 9th rank of honor, and Mr. Suga is the third.
