Thursday June 4th, 2015June 3rd, 2015, Tokyo: Mr. Mori, the president of TOCOG (77 years old) indicated Baseball Softball and Karate as most likely sports to be proposed to the IOC.
Mr. Mori’s comment:
“Baseball Softball certainly attracts spectators so that can sell more and more tickets. Elimination league can be held in province, because every prefecture in Japan have baseball stadiums, and it can revitalize local cities. I want to hold the event in “ALL JAPAN STYE” nationwide.”
“Concerning Karate, it’s much more popular and international than Baseball Softball. I was surprised at the numbers of participating countries of Karate and their enthusiasm for the Olympics.”
TOCOG is sounding the will of 33 IOC recognized IFs (except winter sports) if they would participate in the Tokyo 2020 additional event selection. TOCOG will shortlist candidate IFs by June 22nd then make proposal to the IOC by September 30th 2015.
